Sacred Heart of Jesus

The kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed; nor will they say; 'Look, here it is!' or 'There it is!' For, in fact, the kingdom of God is within you.
(Luke 17:20-21)

Drawing inspiration from the teachings of the Unity movement I have come to develop a Christology which focuses on the universal presence of the resurrected Christ (as opposed to the incarnate divinity of the historic Jesus) as this allows for a faith which recognizes the immanent Divinity in all beings.

I believe that Jesus is a conscious embodiment of God who willingly and consciously incarnated on this planet with his awareness of his God-self intact. I also believe that there have been other conscious beings who have chosen to incarnate with full awareness of the Divinity they are. I focus on the meaning indwelling presence of God for the word Christ. I believe that the Christ far exceeds the historic Jesus as it is co-existent with God beyond time and space. I believe that the Christ exists within all of us, the only distinction between many of us here on Earth, and Christ Jesus was his conscious awareness of his Divine nature and his ability to express it. I believe that it is our challenge through worship, prayer, contemplation, meditation and devotion, to remember our Christ nature and live from this state instead of in fear and reaction to centuries of violence, oppression and distorted truth. In my own intuitive sense of Jesus, I believe that he lived to teach us that we could live life differently than we had been living it through radical faith and devotion to a God that was not only outside of us but also within us.

I believe that as Jesus Christ was the conscious embodiment of God, so too was he proof that we also hold God within us. I believe that Jesus lived to remind us that the Christ is in all of us. I believe he lived to offer inspiration and example of how we might live. I believe he offered miracles, not to show how different from us he was, but instead to show us what is actually possible to achieve with a human body that is connected to awareness of God. For me the most important part of Jesus's message lies in the inclusivity of the outsider. I believe Jesus teaches not only to welcome and accept the repentant sinner, but to accept and welcome the sinner. I think one of the most important things we could learn from Jesus lies in his inclusion of all of God's children.

As a Wiccan priestess, I come to the question: "How do I reconcile my belief in Christ with my celebration of other faces of Deity?" When I imagine Jesus I consider his inclusivity towards outsiders, and I imagine that his love and acceptance is great enough to accept my faith even if it exceeds the perimeters of many of a more traditional Christianity. So in the freedom of my own authentic faith I celebrate the many faces of the One True Source. Perhaps conventional Christians might wonder, why if I do find such richness and truth in the power of the Christ, would I still be drawn to other traditions? I would answer that by saying that: 1. In the universality of the Christ, I never do leave Christ but find it in many forms. 2. Because I was raised with the freedom to explore and celebrate the diversity of Deity, I have come to know, love and cherish these experiences of God, and frankly the thought of forsaking this vastness for the particularity of one aspect in the historic Christ Jesus seems an unnecessary limitation. 3. I see myself as a member of a vast world community. I believe we are united through the oneness of a Divinity which transcends name or particularity. I choose to acknowledge this as my truth and celebrate God's many faces accordingly. I reconcile the question of the Judeo Christian directive towards Monotheism through the beliefs of Unitarian Universalism, as I believe all differing names and aspects of Deity do transcend to the Ultimate One.
